Millburn Library Offers Programs For Kids

The Millburn Library is getting ready for fall with some new back-to-school programs keeping younger residents throughout town busy. 

The library's fall story time program will kick off the new school year starting in October. Registration begins Sept. 10 for kids from 9-months-old to 5-years-old. 

"The goal is getting them ready to go to school," said one of the organizers of children's programs at the library, Patt Kent. Kent runs the program along with Jennie Ferraro until Thanksgiving, which parents can sign their kids up for either Monday or Tuesday time slots. 

For some of the older kids, the library is also starting a movie and game night on Saturdays once a month. The first Saturday night event will be in September with a game night and each month after will rotate between a movie and a game.

"We're trying some new things," Kent said. "We would like to show movies of a book, like 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid,' so we can discuss it."

The game nights will run for about an hour and the movie nights will allow time for the movie and some discussion.

The story time program is divided into three age groups: 9-24 month-olds; 2-3 year-olds; and 4-5-year-olds.  The youngest group meets for 20 minutes and the 2-and 3-year-olds meet for 30 minutes. 

Parents have the choice with the oldest group to attend the 45-minute story time with them or let them enjoy it alone. Kent explained the library tried to cater to each age group with different activities to keep the kids entertained. 

The library is also offering a drop in story time for ages two and up on Saturday mornings, where anyone of all ages can attend. 

"Whoever wants to can come," Kent said. "We just bring a lot of books."
