MILLBURN, NJ — A high school football player in Millburn is helping fellow student-athletes to attend college with a nonprofit he started – which recently awarded its first scholarship.
The Other Side of the End Zone announced last week that Kaemir Carter, a graduating senior at West Side High School in Newark, is the recipient of its inaugural $5,000 scholarship.
Founded by Millburn High School student Gavin Sherman last year, the nonprofit offers financial aid to high school students who “demonstrate strong academic performance and character traits in addition to excellence on the football field.”

Carter – an outstanding offensive and defensive lineman for West Side’s football team – also excels in basketball and track. He will be attending Kean University this fall, where he will continue to play football.
Sherman, a running back on the Millburn High School football team, said he created the nonprofit to give back to his community and help other student-athletes achieve their goals … both on and off the field.
