New Year, New Law In Millburn: Seasonal Leaf Blower Ban Will Begin In 2026
Here's what to know about the town's seasonal ban on gas-powered leaf blowers.
MILLBURN, NJ — A new law will take effect with the new year in Millburn: a seasonal ban on gas-powered leaf blowers.
The Millburn Township Committee approved the partial ban earlier this year. It will begin on Jan. 1, 2026.
Millburn’s ordinance restricts the dates and times when gas-powered leaf blowers may be used by professional landscapers, residents and township employees.

In addition, landscaping businesses will be required to register with Millburn under a separate ordinance.

Seasonal Restriction (Not Allowed):
- Winter: January 1 - March 15
- Summer: Memorial Day (5/26/2026) - Labor Day (9/7/2026)
Seasonal Permission (Allowed):
- Spring: March 16 - Day Before Memorial Day (5/24/2026)
- Fall: Day After Labor Day (9/6/2026) - New Year's Eve Day (12/31/2026)
Hourly Permission for Spring & Fall (Allowed):
- Weekdays 8 AM - 7 PM
- Weekends 9 AM - 5 PM
- Golf Courses 7 AM- 8 PM
Violators will be given a warning on first offense. Fines include $250 for the second offense, $500 for the third offense, and $1,000 for the fourth offense. Five-time violators may face a $2,000 fine and suspension/revocation of their registration with the township. A grace period without fines will take place from Jan. 1 to March 15.
