Pythons Finish Perfect, Win Tournament Title

The 14U soccer team battled tough teams as well as freezing conditions to finish with 4-0 record in 2013 MAPS Soccer Challenge tournament.

The 14U Millburn Pythons won the 2013 MAPS Soccer Challenge Tournament by battling tough teams as freezing conditions on the windswept fields of Tuckahoe Farms in Hammonton, NJ, March 16 and 17.

Millburn finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record. A combination of clutch scoring and superb defense allowed Millburn to win the title.

Millburn defeated Florence, N.J. in game 1 by a score of 2-1. A breakaway goal by Andrew Karp sealed the victory, along with an earlier goal scored by Reese Little. Drew Cohn, Spencer Schneider, Bryce Millington, Connor Lally, Justin Ehly and Eric Silverstein led an aggressive offense that kept pressure on the defense the whole game.

Game 2 was a shortened offensive explosion as Brandon Rossi scored 3 goals and Reese Little added one as the Dragon Soccer Academy NJ quit the contest after the hail ridden first half losing 4-0.

Millburn’s tough 1-0 Game 3 victory against Wall was led by the tremendous goalkeeping of Perry Schwartz who made numerous saves and provided excellent field position with his booming punts. Millburn’s skillful defensive line of Gabriel Nadell, Richie Schiekofer, Logan Schneider and Coby Weiss were outstanding in stopping the much larger Wall team and shutting them down.

In the championship game, Millburn faced a hungry Florence team and again clutch scoring and outstanding defense led the way to a 1-0 victory. Millburn’s winning goal was set up by passes from Matt Brenner and Mateo Ginocchi to the speedy Andrew Karp who scored with nine minutes left in the contest.

From there, Millburn’s hard-nosed defensive line led by Gabriel Nadell, Richie Schiekofer and Logan Schneider, with superior goalkeeping by Perry Schwartz, shut down the hard charging Florence team and won the game.
