Apparent Road Rage Turns Into Alleged Shooting

An apparent road rage incident on South Orange Avenue resulted in an alleged shooting incident on Saturday afternoon, Millburn police said Monday.

According to the report, a 21-year-old Irvington woman was driving on South Orange Avenue in the South Mountain Reservation just after 1 p.m. on March 9.

She told police when she stopped at a red light at the intersection of Brookside Drive, she saw a man hanging out of the driver's side window of a small black pickup truck two cars back yelling. 

"You'll get killed for stuff like that," the woman reported the man screamed. 

She described the man as approximately 40 years old, white, short and skinny. He was wearing a black hat and a blue plaid shirt. 

When the light turned green, she continued straight on the roadway in the left hand lane. The man in the pickup pulled up beside her on the right, police said.

According to the report, the man then leaned out the window, displayed a black handgun and fired two shots at the woman's car. The woman then turned left onto Old Short Hills Road and pulled into a residential driveway to collect herself.

After a few minutes, she continued to her job at the Livingston Mall, where she called Livingston Police to report the incident. Milburn Police also responded to take her statement.

According to the report, Millburn Police searched the area where the woman said the shooting occurred, but police were unable to find bullet casings.
