Swiss Chocolate Store Läderach Coming To Short Hills Mall Next Month

MILLBURN, NJ — Hungry? Feast your eyes.

The Switzerland-based chocolatier Läderach will open a new store next month at the Short Hills Mall in Millburn, N.J., as well as at two Florida shopping centers, all owned by Taubman.

Each Läderach store offers more than 85 varieties of artisanal chocolate from Switzerland, and has a "FrischSchoggi" (Swiss German for “fresh chocolate”) counter for chocolate lovers to select their favorites, the company said.

The company has only one other store in New Jersey, at the American Dream Mall. The other closest stores are in New York City.

The company was founded in 1962 by Rudolf Läderach, who patented a new manufacturing process for chocolate truffles.

Currently, "Chocolate Master Elias Läderach leads production and innovation, and all chocolate is made from bean-to-bar in-house," the company says. "[It's] finished by hand and is brought directly to the more than 100 Läderach stores worldwide."

Besides chocolates, the company sells an array of confections, even including popcorn in flavors like limited edition yogurt-lemon.

“The joy of our fresh, premium Läderach chocolate comes to life through our in-store experience that truly awakens the five senses,” said Nathanael Hausmann, president, Läderach North America. “We’ve seen a strong online demand for our chocolate in Florida and New Jersey."

The company started its North American expansion in November 2019 with stores New York City, Toronto and London. Last December, Läderach opened its largest and 100th global store on Fifth Avenue in New York City.

Since June 2021, Läderach has opened nine locations in Florida. By fall 2021, Läderach will have opened more than 30 U.S. stores from coast to coast.
