The Long Swim to the NJ Summer Swim Meet
A recap of the Millburn Rec Summer swim teams as it overcomes obstacles this year.
The township's Rec Summer Swim Team faced new challenges this year having moved up to Division 2 in the North Jersey Summer Swim League. Returning coaches Kelly Fitzmaurice and Tom Morreale led this year’s team of over 120 swimmers. It all started with a win against Florham Park on the eve of June 26. They continued their strong efforts to win their Division 2 title with a record of 7-1.

- June 27 – Millburn (301) v. Verona (144)
- July 2 – Maplewood (259) v. Millburn (183)
- July 3 – Berkeley Heights (193) v. Millburn (249)

Millburn took on Verona clinching first place in 37 out of the meet’s 51 events. A spirited Millburn team was outgunned by Maplewood next. A low attendance was a contributing factor to the team’s one and only loss of the season on July 2. But Millburn swimmers would come back with a vengeance to sweep the last five dual meets of the season.

Fighting off a game Berkeley Heights team at their pool, the Millburn team emerged victorious. The word was out in Division 2 that Millburn's promotion was well earned. Florham Park's visit to Millburn was no more pleasant than the first go-round outscoring them this time by 85 points. Millburn was out in force, knocking off a tough Maplewood squad and avenging their only loss.
At this point, Millburn raised their record to 5-1 and in the process, continuing to show Division 2 that they not only belong, but were thriving. Travelling to the Verona Pool, the Millburn Team completed their season sweep of the Verona Waves.

On a cold and rainy July 20 night, a seriously depleted Millburn squad suffered through a myriad of unexpected no-shows, but in the end managed to hold off a determined Berkeley Heights team to raise the final record for the summer to 7-1. The meet went down to the final two relays, with the 12 & Under Boys Free Relay Team of Justin Mon, Mark Madrawski, Jack Wenzel and Anshul Kamath sealing the deal.
Wins against their opponents were accomplished as a team effort with many first place performance times from new members such as: Zoe Segal: 8u girls 25 freestyle - 16.56Y (Verona v. Millburn), Emily Segal: 9-10 girls 25 breast – 20.00Y (Verona v. Millburn), as well as, veteran members such as: Livia Maguire: 9-10 girls 25 butterfly – 15.00Y (Millburn v. Verona), Evan Ng: 11-12 boys 50 back – 33.50Y (Verona v. Millburn), Chris Balbo: 13-14 boys 50 butterfly – 27.43Y (Maplewood v. Millburn).
