“The ‘day after’ has come unfortunately,” Lawrence Hamm, the founding chairman for the People’s Organization for Progress who called for action earlier this month, said. “Let us show our outrage with the righteousness, dignity and the large numbers that this gross injustice demands of us all.”
Local activists have been planning the rally for nearly a month in anticipation of a failure to indict Wilson, Zayid Muhammad, a media advocate for the Coalition stated.

About the Newark Anti-Violence Coalition
Muhammad added that while the Coalition’s primary focus is combatting gun violence, the Coalition cannot lecture local youth on the importance of preventing gun crimes, without holding Police Officers accountable for violent acts.
In the aftermath of the acquittal of George Zimmerman for the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin, NAVC hosted six days of direct action protests to condemn the acquittal.
The Coalition is best known for its historic hosting of 155 straight weeks of direct action protest over the scourge of gun violence and the indifference of elected leadership, clergy and segments of the community.
