Arbor Day Brings New Trees to Anderson Park
Friends of Anderson Park planted more than 20 trees in the park on Arbor Day.
A local nonprofit is making sure Andreson Park remains abundant with trees for future generations.
The Friends of Anderson Park teamed up with local Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops on Friday to plant 22 trees throughout the park, including maple, pin oak, London plane and more.
Founder and President of Friends of Anderson Park Scott Kevelson was there with other members helping local Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts plant trees and instructing them on the history of the park.

Kevelson said the group needs to act now because many of the towering trees in the park are reaching the end of their life expectancy and dying off.
"We are replacing them for future generations," said Kevelson.

Keeping true to the park's tradition, Kevelson said the Montclair nonprofit used the original 1904 landscape plan when it was deciding what trees to plant and where to plant them — but included a few modern adjustments.
"We are trying to rehabilitate the original landscape design plan with modern adaptations, [such as] trees that are more disease resistant and more draught tolerant."
Friends of Anderson Park has planted more than 200 trees in the park since its founding 2006.
