Space Heater Causes Home Fire In Montclair, Firefighters Offer Safety Tips
Montclair firefighters issued a warning about space heaters after one of the devices caused a home fire.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair firefighters recently issued a warning about space heaters after one of the devices caused a home fire.
The Montclair Fire Department issued the following statement about the fire on Dec. 22:
“This past weekend, the Montclair Fire Department responded to a small residential fire that was caused by a space heater. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. As colder weather continues, space heaters can be helpful—but they can also be dangerous if not used properly.”
The MFD offered some safety tips for space heaters:

- Keep space heaters at least three feet away from anything that can burn
- Place heaters on a stable, flat surface
- Never use extension cords or power strips—plug directly into a wall outlet
- Check cords and plugs for damage before use
- Turn heaters off when leaving the room or going to sleep
“A few simple precautions can prevent a fire and keep your family safe,” the MFD said.
