Board of Ed. and Council Meetings, Summer Camp Registration and More

Update: The Montclair Board of Education meeting will be moved from the originally posted George Inness Annex to the Montclair High School auditorium. 

The Montclair Board of Education will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Montclair High School auditorium, at 100 Chestnut St.  

The district is coming off a week where Glenfield Middle School Principal Charles Miller unexpectedly resigned after an investigation into a BB gun incident that occurred on April 24 at the school.

Starting Monday, Victoria Skopak will take over as interim principal of Glenfield Middle School until the end of the school year. 

Montclair Recreation Department's day camp registration for children aged 5-12 will also begin on Monday at 1 p.m. To register online, visit register.community pass.net.

In-person registrations will be taken at the Recreation Department, located in the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave. 

The Montclair Township Council will convene for a conference meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave.  

At the previous council meeting last week, the council’s Financial Committee unveiled a new commitment to funding services that have been reduced in recent years.

The committee nixed more $180,000 in the previously proposed budget to invest more in libraries, schools and homeless organizations. The committee also proposed to decrease the originally proposed tax levy increase of 2.4 percent to 1.9 percent.

Superintendent Penny MacCormack will hold strategic planning forum for parents and the community on Thursday between 7 and 9 p.m. at the Montclair Public Schools Central Office, at 22 Valley Road. The theme for the night will be "Challenging All" and "Montclair High School."

On Saturday at 9 a.m. Clara Maass Lung Cancer Institute will host a free workshop about how to quit smoking at the hospital's Office of Focus Physical Therapy & Wellness, at 550 Valley Road. All are welcome. Call 1 (888) 724-7123 to reserve your spot or send and email wellnessatfocus@gmail.com
