Crafty Bike Thieves Are At It Again

But this time they are caught!

          Yet another bike theft occurred this week, this one on Thursday at about 2:55 p.m. Police were dispatched to the area of Elmwood Avenue and Maple Avenue on a report of a stolen bicycle. According to the caller, her son was at the basketball courts in Glenfield Park when he observed a twelve year old Montclair male taking his bicycle, a blue Kent Free Style BMX, valued at $300, from the area of the courts. The son immediately notified his mother, who observed the male and a fourteen year old Montclair male riding the bicycle on Elmwood Avenue and proceeded to stop them.

            The two juveniles were placed under arrest and charged with theft. They were later turned over to their guardians.

Theft from a Motor Vehicle

            On Thursday at approximately 7:00 p.m., police received a report of a theft from a motor vehicle that occurred on Christopher Street sometime between 9:00 p.m. on July 18 and 9:00 a.m. on July 19. The victim stated that $200 was stolen from inside her unlocked vehicle. There are no suspects at this time.

Arrest

            On Friday at approximately 6:20 a.m., police were dispatched to Central Avenue on a report of a person trying to illegally gain entry to a vehicle. Upon arrival, police located an individual who matched the provided description of the suspect. This male, later identified as Brent Stone, 22, of East Orange, was advised of the reason why he was being detained. Stone told the officer, "I just looked in the vehicle. I didn't try to go in it."

            Stone was placed under arrest and charged with criminal trespass. Stone was also found to be in possession of eleven bags of marijuana and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute. Bail is set at $10,000.
