Trains Running Again After Derailment In Montclair, 6 NJ Transit Crew Members Released From Hospital
Trains are back up and running on the Montclair-Boonton line after a collision that injured more than a dozen people and suspended service.
MONTCLAIR, NJ -- Trains are back up and running on the Montclair-Boonton line after two NJ Transit trains collided Friday, injuring more than a dozen people and suspending service due to a “minor derailment,” authorities say.
NJ Transit said the trains made contact west of the Bay Street Station in Montclair at 6:47 p.m. There were 17 non-life-threatening injuries. Six people – each NJ Transit crew members – were hospitalized.
The injured crew members have all been released from the hospital, authorities said Saturday.

It isn’t currently known what caused the derailment. The NJ Transit Police Department and the National Transportation Safety Board are conducting investigations.

Cleanup efforts began after a preliminary investigation was done, with NJ Transit crews re-railing and removing the affected train cars from the area.
The Township of Montclair issued an update about the situation on Sunday:
"NJ Transit has informed the township that normal service on the Montclair-Boonton Line is expected to operate as usual beginning today, following Friday’s train collision at the Bay Street station. Residents planning to commute are encouraged to continue checking NJ Transit’s official website for the most up-to-date service information and real-time alerts. We appreciate the community’s patience and extend our thanks to the first responders and transit personnel who responded swiftly to the incident. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) remains on-site to investigate potential causes of the accident."
The township will share additional updates if new information becomes available, Montclair officials said.
