Montclair Budget Hearings Scheduled

Montclair municipal taxes are expected to rise 2.4% in 2013.

The Montclair 2013 budget hearings will begin in April. 

All hearings will be held in the municipal building, located at 205 Claremont Ave. The meetings will be televised live on TV34 and streaming live at http://montclair.peg.tv.

The following departments will present their budget requests to the council on the following dates.

  • Tuesday, April 2, at 7 p.m.: Planning Department, Municipal Court, Finance Department, Water Bureau and Sewer Utility  
  • Saturday, April 6, at 9 a.m.: Recreation Department, Fire Department, Code Enforcement, Township Attorney
  • Tuesday, April 9, at 7 p.m.: The Montclair Public Library, Police Department
  • Tuesday, April 16, at 7 p.m.: Department of Community Services, Health Department, the capital budget 

2013 Preliminary Budget

Municipal taxes are expected to increase 2.4 percent this year, or $1.25 million, according to a preliminary budget presented by Township Manager Marc Dashield this month.

The average home assessed at approximately $505,600 can expect to pay about $5,315 in municipal taxes, which is an increase of $94 from last year. 

The 2013 overall proposed budget is $77.8 million, which is up $2.25 million or 3 percent from 2012. 

Driving costs up in the proposed 2013 budget will be police and fire salaries and paying for the cleanup of Hurricane Sandy.
