Montclair Names New Acting Township Manager

Stafford brings extensive experience managing municipalities, budgets and employees.

Montclair Mayor Robert Jackson today announced that Tim Stafford would serve as the new Acting Montclair Township Manager.

Stafford comes to Montclair with extensive legal experience and previously served as Borough Manager in Fair Lawn and Borough Administrator in Rutherford.

“He is the ideal person to help us continue improving our fiscal outlook, enacting our expanded communications efforts and enhancing the way we deliver services to our residents,” said Jackson.

In his role as Borough Manager as Fair Lawn, Stafford served as the CEO of a municipal operation with a $55 million budget and 350 employees. He was responsible for appointing and empowering department heads and staff, working with professional advisors, coordinating the annual operating and capital budgets, handling labor negotiations and serving as the purchasing agent approving all disbursements of funds.

As Borough Administrator in Rutherford, Stafford served as the Chief Administrator Officer of a $25 million, 250 employee municipal government, managing the day-to-day operations and formulating strategic policy while streamlining administrative activities and broadening relationships between the Mayor, Council and Municipal Boards.

“I am honored to join a very experienced team of professionals and elected officials serving the residents of Montclair,” said Stafford. “Montclair is a wonderful town and I look forward to working here every day to more efficiently manage taxpayers’ money and more effectively deliver services to the residents.”

A graduate of Glassboro State College, Stafford received his Juris Doctor from Widener University. He is admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, New York Court of Appeals, United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.

Stafford and his wife have an eleven year old daughter. He serves as Softball coach in Verona and sits on the board of the Verona Baseball/Softball League.
