Montclair Police Increase Seat-Belt Enforcement
Local police participating in national Click It or Ticket campaign through June 2.

The Montclair Police Department along with law enforcement agencies across the country is participating in the the 2013 Click It or Ticket seat-belt campaign now through Sunday, June 2.
During this time, there will be zero-tolerance enforcement of safety belt laws, which in New Jersey require all passengers to wear seat belts regardless of their position in the car.
Not wearing a seat belt in a front seat is a primary offense and officers may stop a car and issue a ticket for this alone. Failure to wear seat belts in a back seat is a secondary offense and a ticket may be issued if the driver has been pulled over for another motor vehicle offense.

“Whether you’re riding in the front or back seat, a seat belt is the simplest way to protect yourself in a crash,” according www.NJSafeRoads.com, which compares unbelted occupants to “bullets” in a crash.
Montclair Police received a $4,000 Click It or Ticket Mobilization Grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety to conduct the two-week campaign.
