Olympia Dukakis Gets Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Former Montclair resident best known for Oscar-winning role in 'Moonstruck.'

Actress, director and producer Olympia Dukakis, best known for her portrayal of Rose Castorini in Moonstruck, was awarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Friday. 

The former Montclair resident became the 2,498th star to be added to the Los Angeles sidewalk by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, according to a report on StarPulse.com. Dukakis, who turns 82 next month, was greeted by adoring fans.

Diane Ladd co-starred in three films with the actress.

"She's multi-talented and multi-wonderful," said Ladd, calling her a "great actress, great humanitarian, great mother, great wife, great beloved friend." 

Dukakis and her husband Yugoslav-American actor Louis Zorich co-founded The Whole Theatre Company in Montclair in 1971 and ran the company for 19 years. The Whole Theatre helped give birth to new plays and was known to take on untried scripts, according to her biography on IMDB.

Movie critic John Farr included Moonstruck on his list of "11 Essential New York City Movies."
