Montclair Shop Specializes in High-End Consignment
One Savvy Design on Church Street sells designer labels at 55 percent off retail.
Are you privy to the incredible fashion deals available on the far end of Church Street in Montclair?
One Savvy Design, a boutique consignment shop, opened at 74 Church St. last May. In that time, owner Arlene Carrini has grown the selection from two racks to multiple rooms featuring gently worn designer women’s clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories.
Highlights for spring and summer include a Dolce & Gabbana sleeveless top for $109, Jimmy Choo yellow patent leather sandals for $139 and Gucci sunglasses for $159 (see photos for these and other items).

Racks are neatly organized by categories, such as dresses, blouses, tanks, etc. Most items are priced about 55 percent off retail, and jeans are all $49 regardless of designer.
Carrini said dresses, blouses and eyelet are hot right now, and the bohemian chic look is ever-popular with her Montclair customers.

“Montclair is a casual town. It’s an easy town,” she said. “You don’t have to get really dressed up.”
Consigning is easy, Carrini explained. With a $20 registration fee, women are welcome to consign an unlimited number of items without an appointment. Consigned items are kept on the floor for two seasons and may be marked down at the owner’s discretion.
“We have people that make $20, we have people that make $800,” Carrini said, adding that the more you bring in the more you can make.
This is the Belleville resident's first business after spending many years in the garment industry, working retail and rising in the ranks to be a merchandiser or buyer.
In addition to the consigned items, Carrini sells many of the shabby chic furnishings, mirrors and chandeliers that decorate the shop.
“As a fluke thing, I started refinishing furniture,” she said.
The pieces include versatile dressers and end tables she hopes will become as much a conversation piece in your home as the outfits you pick up at One Savvy Design.
