Parking Rules in Case of Snow

Don't get a ticket this week. Know when and where you can park your car on snow-covered streets.

If there is snowfall this week, be mindful of where you park in Montclair.

Parking on public streets is prohibited during a snow event as well as parking a vehicle so that it extends into the roadway when it snows. The regulation is in effect when any accumulation of snow completely covers the roadway and obstructs road markings.

The parking rules remain in place until the entire block or roadway has been cleared of snow.

This parking ordinance does not apply to long-term/overnight permit parking locations.

There are some exceptions to the new snow parking ordinance, such as for vehicles which display valid handicapped placards or have handicapped license plates and are otherwise legally parked.

Hourly limits and meter fees at the Fullerton Parking Deck (located next to the Park Street YMCA) and the Bay Street Deck will be waived when snow accumulations are greater than 2 inches and until 24 hours after snow has stopped falling.

Overnight Parking

Where overnight permit parking is allowed, the following parking regulations will go into effect during a snow event:

  • On even calendar days, night permit parking shall be allowed on the north and east sides of the street.
  • On odd calendar days night permit parking shall be allowed on the south and west sides of the street.

So for Thursday morning, overnight parking permit holders should park on the south and west sides of the street during enforcement hours, between 2 to 5 a.m.

One-Time/Daily Permits

One-time use/daily scratch off permits are prohibited during a snow emergency and vehicles displaying these types of permits will be ticketed and removed from the roadway.

This also applies to metered parking areas between 2 and 6 a.m.
