Montclair Restaurants Cited for Health Code Violations in 2012

Fifteen restaurants in Montclair were cited for health code violations last year by local inspectors, according to township records.

A man wearing a mask flashed a handgun and robbed a Montclair bank Monday before escaping with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.

A 38-year-old Montclair woman was indicted Monday on charges she fatally stabbed her live-in boyfriend in January, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. 

Assault With Fake Handgun Leads to Arrest of 4 Teens

Four teenagers were arrested last week for assaulting people in Glenfield Park with a fake handgun, according to police. 

Northeast Elementary School passed most of its academic benchmarks in a recent state report, but schoolwide proficency in language arts was low and the school ranked "about average" when compared to schools throughout the state. 

Mt. Hebron Middle School fell short of its academic achievement targets last year and student growth in language arts and math was found to be lagging behind most schools in the state, according to a recent report. 

A state report found Hillside Elementary School failed to meet its academic achievement targets last year and found achievement gaps among its students.

State Scrutinizes Glenfield School for Achievement Gaps

Glenfield Middle School is getting special attention from the state after a recent report found large achievement gaps among its students.  

While Edgemont Elementary School met some of its academic performance goals last year, a state report found students attending the school are not being prepared properly for college. 

Large gaps in student academic performance at Charles H. Bullock Jr. Elementary School have placed it on the state's watchlist. 

Montclair Police Now on Twitter

The Montclair Police Department has joined the social media community.

Police Chief David Sabagh and the department joined Twitter this past Monday with the goal of giving Montclair residents access to up-to-the-minute information about crime trends, police initiatives, road closures, emergency notifications, department events and tips on safety.

Should Montclair Create More Liquor Licenses For Super Bowl XLVIII?

In a town with hundreds of restaurants and eateries to choose from, one thing Montclair lacks is liquor licenses.  

But as Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford approaches, a nearby city is pondering a move to lift the ban on liquor licenses for two weeks in February 2014 for the big game, according to NorthJersey.com.

Montclair Run Celebrates 31 Years in June

This year marks the 31st anniversary of the Montclair Run.  

The run will take place on Sunday, June 2, and includes a 2 mile run/walk and 10K (6.2 miles) road race through Edgemont and Anderson parks in Montclair.

Montclair Resident Wins Face of Bangz Contest

Montclair resident Carrie Lane Pearlman is the new face of Bangz Salon and Wellness Spa.

Pearlman won the second Face of Bangz contest held Monday at the spa, located at 23 S. Fullerton Ave. She was chosen by a panel of judges from of crop of four other candidates from Cedar Grove, Newark, New York and West Orange.
