New Glenfield Principal Revealed, Berkow Discusses 'Summers at Shea' This Week

Pulitzer Prize-winning sportswriter Ira Berkow will discuss his entertaining and eventful time around the New York Mets at the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center on Monday at 6 p.m., followed by a signing of his new book “Summers at Shea.”
The Montclair Township Council will hold a regular conference meeting Tuesday, at 7:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers at the Municipal Building, 205 Claremont Ave. A number of public hearings will be held on pending ordinances dealing with quality of life issues, including ordinances governing maintenance of vacant properties, establishing an abandoned properties list, and establishing a new process for the police chief to deal with nuisance properties. The Montclair Board of Education is expected to announce the hiring of a new Glenfield Middle School Principal at Monday night's special meeting, to be held in the Montclair High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. This meeting will open in public session, but will then go immediately into executive session. The meeting will reconvene in public session at 8:30 pm. See the agenda.
Montclair Schools will hold a new Parent Leadership Academy this week from Tuesday through Thursday. Parents are invited to attend workshops to learn about the Strategic Plan, the new Family Access program, and take a tour of the Montclair Art Museum. See brochure for details.
The Montclair Film Festival’s 4th Annual free outdoor summer screenings continue with a screening of "Goonies" on Thursday, at 8 p.m., at the Montclair Public Library, 50 South Fullerton Ave. Movie starts at 9 p.m. Bring your own lawn chairs, blankets and picnics. The 1985 action-adventure comedy is based on a story written by Steven Spielberg.
