Succeed2together, a Montclair-based non-profit organization providing free tutoring and summer enrichment programs for low-income students, as well as other services for those most in need, will hold its annual Oktoberfest Fundraiser, on Wednesday, October 15, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Succeed2gether Resource Center, 11 Pine Street, Montclair.
The annual fall fundraiser will feature an assortment of craft beers, wine, autumnal food and activities, including American traditional dancing led by popular dance caller Ridge Kennedy. Live music will be performed by fiddler Clarence Ferrari, Paul Prestopino on banjo and Ross Harris on guitar.
Proceeds from the event will support Succeed2gether’s education and youth empowerment programs, anti-violence initiatives and human-needs assistance services provided in collaboration with Toni’s Kitchen in Montclair. Tickets for the fundraiser are $75 (general admission), $150 (supporter) and $1000 (sponsor, including 4 tickets, t-shirts, gift bag, name and logo in the program and on Succeed2tgether’s website.)

Founded in 2009, Succeed2gether continues to expand the size, scope and impact of its programs. During this academic year, more than 100 students are expected to participate in the After-School Tutoring Program. Tutors are trained volunteers made up of current and retired teachers, students enrolled in Montclair State University’s education program, high school honor students and business professionals.
“One reason Succeed2gether’s education programs are successful is that each child receives individualized instruction focused on their specific areas of need,” said Marcia Marley, president and executive director of Succeed2gether. “We’re very proud of the results we have achieved — both quantitative and qualitative. Test scores from our summer program show substantive gains in math and language arts. But just as important, students improve their grades, their self-confidence and are more engaged in the learning process.”

After-school tutoring is available Monday-Thursday, from September through May, at the Montclair Public Library, 50 Fullerton Ave., Montclair. Succeed2gether also holds weekend workshops on algebra readiness, math fundamentals and literacy during the fall and spring. In addition, each summer about 50 students, grades three through eight, participate in Succeed2gether’s four-week enrichment program designed to keep the “summer slide” in academic performance at bay.
