Montclair Municipal Taxes Expected to Rise 2.4% in 2013

Montclair taxes will increase in 2013. 

The municipal tax levy will rise 2.4 percent this year, or $1.25 million, according to a preliminary budget presented by Township Manager Marc Dashield at Tuesday's council meeting.

Montclair's Watchung Elementary Named a State 'Reward School'

A Montclair elementary school has been recognized as one of the highest performing schools in New Jersey. 

Watchung Elementary School was named as a High Performing Reward School by the state's Department of Education this week. Watchung School was one of 112 schools in the state to receive the honor. 

A major telecommunications company with a store in Montclair was burglarized and dozens of cellular smart phones worth tens of thousands of dollars were taken last weekend, according to police. 

Once a quiet farming community, current residents are taking a renewed interest in community gardening. While there are only a handful of inquires a year, Director of Planning and Community Development Janice Talley said township code is completely silent on the topic.

The Montclair Planning Board has rescheduled its public hearing on the Master Plan's "Unified Land Use and Circulation Element" to Wednesday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave.

The meeting was originally scheduled for April 8.
