This Saturday: Huge Annual Yard Sale To Benefit Orphaned Animals

Either stop by the sale or donate your goods to be sold.

It's that time of year again when kids are back in school and you can finally find a few minutes to clear out your closets and basement. And now, in the process, you can help orphaned animals at the same time.

On Saturday, September 18, the Manlowe family of Montclair will host its 2nd annual Orphaned Pets Yard Sale.

Orphaned Pets is an animal rescue group that the Manlowes have been working with for 12 years and that their kids have been volunteering with for the past three years.

"They are a wonderful group of volunteers that open their hearts and homes to animals in need," Meredith Manlowe said. "They have been partnering with a 'kill' shelter in Bowling Green, Kentucky and transport the dogs and cats to rescue groups in the area.

"The pets are then fostered in homes and placed in what we hope is a permanent, safe, and life-long new home of their own," she said.

She said she would be happy to come by and pick up quality items this week if anyone wants to make a donation.

And Manlowe promises not to return any items that aren't sold in the yard sale! Instead, the family will either donate them to another group or store them for another similar event.

She emphasized she's mostly looking for higher-end donations and not the types of items one might leave on the curb.

"I have a nice exercise machine ... a Little Tykes Playhouse," she said. "Yesterday I drove to South Orange and picked up a bookcase."

This year's yard sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at 330 Park Street in Upper Montclair.

If anyone would like to make a donation to the sale, please contact Manlowe at 973-722-9396 or manlowe@comcast.net.

Last year the Manlowes raised $800 for the cause. For more information about Orphaned Pets, go here.
