Public Hearing on Civilian Police Director Position, Visit From Santa in the Week Ahead

What's happening this week in Montclair and what stories Patch plans to cover.

The Montclair Board of Education will hold the first of three Board Oversight meetings in the Atrium of the George Inness Annex, 141 Park St., on Monday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. Additional meetings are scheduled for Feb. 10 and April 7. There will be no formal Board action taken at these meetings.

WomanSONG and Strings will perform at the Women's Club of Upper Montclair on Monday, at 8 p.m.

Temple Ner Tamid will host “Make Your Own Hanukkah Pop-Up Book” on Tuesday in the lobby of the Hinck Building. The free event begins at 4 p.m. and will be followed by a community Menorah lighting.

The Montclair Council will convene on Tuesday, at 7 p.m., for a conference meeting. On the agenda is a public hearing on an ordinance to create a position of civilian police director. Members of the Montclair Police Department's two unions recently gave Chief David Sabagh a unanimous vote of no confidence.

The Oratorio Society of New Jersey will present its Messiah Sing! on Tuesday, at 7:30 p.m., at St. James Episcopal Church in Upper Montclair.

Montclair Schools will hold a third workshop on Common Core State Standards on Wednesday. The final workshop in the series will be geared towards parents of high school students.

Trumpets Jazz Club will present "It's Christmas Time" on Thursday, at 7:30 p.m.

The township will hold its annual holiday tree lighting Friday, at 6 p.m., at Bloomfield Avenue and Church Street.

New Jersey Hall of Fame Mobile Museum will visit the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center on the campus of Montclair State University on Friday, at 10 a.m. Make-up mogul Bobbi Brown is the latest Montclair resident to be inducted. 

Montclair High's SVPA Presents Showcase 2014: Rockin’ Out will take place Friday, at 8 p.m., at the high school.

Santa will visit the towns' business districts on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. Check his schedule.

There will be more photo-ops with Santa at Van Vleck House & Gardens this weekend. Walk-ins are welcome, but pre-registration is encouraged
