The following letter to the editor was written by Livingston resident Mark Dunec.
A few weeks ago, I wrote to express frustration with Congress’s failure to enact common sense gun control measures to prevent the senseless violence that plagues our nation. I particularly singled out Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen for once again failing to represent this District. Since that time, the Senate failed to pass a simple background check law and instead moved on to other business. Like other tragedies before it, Sandy Hook will pass from our collective memories and our government will have failed to act.
To be clear, there are different positions on where we strike the right balance between individual liberty and our collective safety. But not taking a position on such a simple issue is unconscionable. Just yesterday, The Citizen of Morris County noted that it had asked the Congressman for his view on gun control but “Frelinghuysen did not respond to the questions and instead offered a general position on the issue of gun control laws.”

I simply cannot understand serving ten terms in Congress and not having a clear position on gun control. The lack of leadership from Congressman Frelinghuysen is appalling. Congressman – on the specific gun control measures before this Congress, where are you?
