UPDATE: Police Release Identity of Trucker Involved in Fatal Route 280 Car Crash
New Jersey State Police have released the name of the truck driver involved in a fiery crash that claimed three lives this morning on 280.

In a statement this afternoon, New Jersey State Police released additional details regarding the fiery crash on Route I-280 that resulted in the three deaths this morning. See video footage below and read the original story here.
“Preliminary investigation at the scene indicates that Michael Devito, 65 of North Bergen, N.J., was driving a 2000 Mack dump truck eastbound when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a Honda passenger vehicle and at least five other vehicles,” the NJSP explained. “The occupants of the Honda, one driver and two passengers were pronounced deceased at the scene. The names of the deceased are being withheld at this time pending positive identification and the notification of their families.”

Four others, including two children traveling in a red Honda and a woman driving a silver Volvo, were injured at the scene of the accident. The woman was treated for minor lacerations while the children were transported to the hospital for precautionary reasons. State Police added that Devito, the truck driver, was treated for minor arm injuries at the hospital.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation. Police have discovered that the dump truck is registered to Direct Waste Services, located in Belleville, N.J. An inspection of the truck will be conducted by the New Jersey State Police Commercial Carrier Safety Inspection Unit.
