Council Meeting, Free Art, Women Of Color Conference Top Montclair Events This Week

Township Council agenda includes a multiway stop for Chestnut and Forest streets, discussion of a $32.5 million bond issuance, and PBA labor negotiations

Monday

The Montclair Planning Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the first floor council chambers of the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave.

Spring registration starts for the Montclair Adult School, at 100 Chestnut St.

The United Way of North Essex will offer free mentor training between 6 and 9 p.m. Monday and Wednesday at 60 S. Fullerton Ave. To register, email Melissa Cooper at melissa.cooper@unitedwaynnj.org or call (973) 993-1160, ext. 112.

Tuesday

The Montclair Township Council will convene for a meeting at 7 p.m. in the first floor council chambers of the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave.

The topics include putting a multiway stop at the intersection of Chestnut and Forest streets, discussion of a $32.5 million bond issuance, and an executive session on labor negotiations with the PBA.

Thursday

The Montclair Art Museum will have Free First Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Slide Night starting at 7 p.m. at the museum, located at 3 S. Mountain Ave. 

Mountainside Hospital, at 1 Bay Ave., will hold a parents support group starting at 6 p.m. Parents of children aged 13 and up who are struggling with drugs or alcohol are invited to join the support group. There are no fees and all attendance is confidential.

Friday

Montclair State University will host the New Jersey American Council on Education Women’s Network Women of Color Conference between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the seventh floor of the conference center in University Hall, located at 1 Normal Ave.

The event will explore trends in leadership, diversity issues and the challenges facing women of color in higher education.

Keynote speakers include Sheila Y. Oliver, Speaker of the House in the New Jersey General Assembly and Susan Shin Angulo, Councilwoman of Cherry Hill Township.

Tickets cost $50.
