Urban Outfitter Employee Attempts to Stop Shoplifters

Montclair Police say a man and a woman ran out of the store carrying merchandise Friday night.

Montclair Police said witnesses got a good look at shoplifters who ran out of Urban Outfitters in Montclair carrying merchandise Friday night.

An employee of the South Park Street business was coming back into the store after his break at about 7:20 p.m. when he told police he saw a man carrying several items under his arm and a woman with a black bag running toward the front door.

The employee stepped in front of the duo to try and stop them. But the employee was pushed out of the way by the man, who dropped several items and ran off with the woman. They headed north on South Park Street and turned west on Bloomfield Avenue, police said.

The woman was described as a black woman between 25 and 30 years old, approximately 5-foot-10, thin build, wearing a pink hooded sweatshirt with the hood over her head. In addition to the hood, the suspect had a black, plastic shower cap covering her hair. She had on blue Hollister brand jeans and was wearing purple and yellow Adidas running sneakers. She was described as having a large nose and large lips. She was carrying a black bag with a logo on it, but the witness did not recognize the logo.

The man was described as a black man between 25 and 30 years old, approximately 6-foot-2 with a thin build. Witnesses said he was wearing a blue Hollister Brand sweatshirt and jeans. He was said to have a square jaw and was clean shaven with a short haircut.
