“The biggest change in our business is who pays for prescriptions.  In the beginning, all prescriptions were paid in full at the time of filling them by the recipient.  A slow evolution began with insurance where we started to fill out forms for our customers to get reimbursed from their insurer,” he said. “Today, every prescriptions is billed via computer to computer via the internet.  In about four seconds, the insurer okays the claim and tells us what to charge the customer and how much money we will receive.  The price is the same coming to us or going to a chain.”

He added, “It is funny to be in business when 99 percent of the prescriptions are priced by someone else, the federal and state governments or the insurance company.”

After 33 years, there will may be more changes in the industry, but Barry’s will be around to service the community.

“It has been a wonderful time in Montville Township and I look to the future for more fun with my friends and neighbors,” he said.
