The Montville Police and Fire Departments responded to the incident with the Hazardous Material Teams. They used hard booms to absorb the spilled oil at both River Road and Knolls Road Bridge and at Stiles and Vail Road in Parsippany. The river was affected for approximately two miles.

Finch Fuel Oil Company hired a private cleanup contractor on the night of the spill. The Morris county Hazardous Material Team is continuing to monitor the recovery operation. They anticipate that the recovery operations will continue for the next few days.
