Upgrades to the township's sewer treatment plant will begin soon after Moorestown Council set money aside for the project Monday night.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Upgrades to the township’s sewer treatment plant will begin soon after Moorestown Council set money aside for the project Monday night.
Council gave final approval to a proposed bond ordinance that allocates $690,000 and authorizes the borrowing of $655,000 in bonds or notes for the upgrades at its meeting Monday night.
The projects, which are part of the township’s capital budget for the year, include the installation of a mechanical bar screen and cleanout and inspection of the plant’s digester.

Also, on Monday night, Township Council approved a resolution to award the mechanical bar screen installation contract to Sub-Level Installation Inc., for $363,500.
The mechanical bar screen filters rags and debris out of the sewage flow to prevent their buildup in tanks and backup in the pipes.

While they work on replacing that unit, the job is being done manually, which requires overtime during heavy rain events, such as those seen over the weekend and Monday night.
A contract for the digester cleanout and inspection is expected to be awarded at the next meeting for $298,572. The project includes a $34,500 down payment.
Township Council also introduced a proposed ordinance to remove outdated conservation subdivision language from the township's zoning code.
The public hearing and final vote on that proposal will take place at the Sept. 13 meeting, which will be held virtually. Read more here: Moorestown Council Going Virtual Again As COVID-19 Cases Spike
