Retired First United Methodist Pastor Dies

The Rev. Carl W. Halvorsen, 87, of Moorestown, died Saturday, Jan. 26.

Rev. Halvorsen was senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Moorestown for more than a decade prior to his retirement. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a pharmacist mate.

Halvorsen was the husband of the late Marcella L. (nee Dillon); father of the Rev. Douglas C. Halvorsen, of Mount Laurel; Dr. Philip R. Halvorsen, of Richland, WA; Kimberleigh M. Bergen, of Medina, OH; Mark D. Halvorsen, of Kingsport, TN; and Roderick T. Halvorsen, of Santa, ID. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at the First United Methodist Church, Camden and Pleasant Valley avenues, in Moorestown, followed by a private interment at Oakland Cemetery in Philadelphia.
