Student Charged In Bomb Scare At NJ High School: Police

A high school student has been charged in connection with a bomb scare that prompted the evacuation of the school building, police said.

MEDFORD, NJ - A South Jersey high school student has been charged in connection with a bomb scare at school that evacuated the building Thursday, authorities said.

Shawnee High School in Medford was evacuated at around 11:30 a.m. due to an online posting alleging a destructive device placed in a bathroom, Medford Township Police Department Lieutenant James D’Averso told Patch.

School officials, district representatives and officers from Medford Township Police Department, Medford Lakes Police Department and Medford Fire personnel worked to secure the scene during the evacuation, D’Averso said.

A sweep from Medford police bomb detection K-9s later confirmed that the school was safe, D’Averso added.

As a result of the investigation, a juvenile student was identified and later charged on a juvenile summons complaint with terroristic threats. He was later released to his parents.
