Wesley Bishop Turf Field Project Underway

Township manager Scott Carew said the new field should be finished by March 2013.

Construction crews began tearing up the lower field at Wesley Bishop North last week, preparing it for its eventual conversion to a turf field.

Township manager Scott Carew said LandTek—which won the contract for the $1.4 million project—should have the project completed by mid-March. If the work spills into the spring lacrosse season, Carew said the township has already made arrangements with the school district to use its grass fields.

Additionally, Carew proposed a minor addition to the project: the replacement of the cinderblock wall at the end of the field, which was demolished as part of the project.

Sports teams, primarily lacrosse, used the wall during practice. Carew said the township could replace it and use the wall as a space for sponsorship opportunities.

"I absolutely have confidence ... it can be paid for with sponsorships," he said.

Carew said the cost of the new wall is estimated around $27,000, though council members suggested it could be done for cheaper.

Carew said he would get a more precise estimate from the contractor for council to consider at their next meeting.
