1 Killed In Fiery Car Crash In Morris Township: Police

The single-vehicle crash is still under official investigation, police said.

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ — One person is dead after the car they were driving crashed into a tree and caught fire on Wednesday night, authorities said.

On Feb. 1 at approximately 11:20 p.m., the Morris County Prosecutors' office was notified by the Morris Township Police of a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Southgate Parkway near the intersection with South Street.

The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, resulting in a fire, Meghan Knab, a spokeswoman for the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, said on Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded and extinguished the fire, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The name of the driver is being withheld from the public as of Thursday morning.
