1,365 Pounds Of Prescription Drugs Turned In To Morris Officials

Operation Take-Back Day sees large turnout throughout Morris.

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Some 726 pounds of unwanted or unused prescription drugs was dropped off to four separate locations in Morris County in April’s Operation Take-Back Day.

The event, part of a nationwide initiative, had locations through Morris County, which hauled in 1,365 pounds, more than 500 pounds above the last collection day in September 2015, according to Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp.

The event was held Saturday, April 30. Four of the locations and their totals included:

  • Stop And Shop Supermarket, Morris Plains: 257 pounds
  • ACME Supermarket, Randolph: 281 pounds
  • Morristown High School, Morristown: 143 pounds
  • Mountain Lakes Fire Dept., Mountain Lakes: 45 pounds

Residents were able to drop off unwanted, unused, or expired prescription drugs for free, no questions asked.

“I want to thank those citizens and local Police Departments who participated in this worthy cause. The results are very encouraging and it is my hope that future Operation Take-Back Days will be as successful as this one” said Knapp. “Our efforts to educate the public on the need to properly dispose of their unused medication have met with apparent success” he said.
