Assumption Students Get Into Holiday Spirit at Macculloch

2011 marks the 21st year fourth grade students have handcrafted period inspired ornaments for the Drawing Room Christmas tree at under the direction of their art teacher, Barbara Silverstein.

In addition to newly created ornaments each year, there is a sizeable collection of cornucopias, cotton batting Santas, tussie-mussies, fans and scrap tinsel ornaments to choose from, all carefully stored in the museum’s collections storage, each one donated by the two decades of children who make them.

This year groups of six students joined together to create dimensional snowflakes with white paper and crystal glitter and, of course, yards of fresh cranberry and popcorn garlands. In appreciation, the museum always sets aside an afternoon in December to welcome the fourth
graders for a tour and to see “their” tree.macculloch hall
