Annual Coat Giveaway Planned For Families In Need In Morristown

MORRISTOWN, NJ — In the winter months, a heavy coat and warm gloves are essential, but for some families, a quality winter coat is simply beyond their budget.

To help tackle this issue, the nonprofit organization Market Street Mission will hold its annual coat distribution on Nov. 2. New jackets and coats in a variety of sizes—available for all family members—will be given away for free to those in need.

Anyone in need of a coat is welcome to join the event on the Morristown Green from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will have coats, along with hats, gloves, and scarves available. If the weather is inclement, the event will take place at the Mission, located at 9 Market Street in Morristown.

"The annual MSM Coat Giveaway is a time for community members, churches, corporations, and individuals to get together and collect winter coats and accessories for the community," said Debbie McKenna, Market Street Mission’s Events and Volunteer Manager. "Volunteers are eager to assist guests in finding just the right fit and color coat they are looking for. We have over 80 wonderful volunteers that come just to make sure each guest we serve feels cared for."

Through the end of October, donations of new outerwear will be accepted at the Market Street Mission Thrift Store, located at 25 George Street, Monday through Saturday, except Wednesdays, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The organization will also be hosting a coat giveaway at the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission, their Asbury Park location, on Nov. 16.

Market Street Mission, is a non-profit organization that ministers to the hungry, homeless and those struggling with addiction in northern New Jersey.

"It takes a community to care for our neighbors in need, and we are grateful for all those who have helped make our Coat Giveaway event possible for more than 30 years. Together, we can make sure everyone has a coat this winter," the organization said.

The Market Street Mission, founded in 1889, is an experienced organization with a proven method of combating alcoholism, substance abuse, hunger and homelessness in northern and central New Jersey.
