Body Found Outside Morristown Church After Overdose, Police Say
On Sunday, a 52-year-old man was discovered dead on a bench outside a church in Morristown.
MORRISTOWN, NJ — Authorities said a 52-year-old man was found dead on a bench outside a church in Morristown on Sunday morning after an apparent drug overdose.
The body of the man, who has not been identified publicly by police, was found outside Morristown’s First Baptist Church, police said.
Capt. Keith Cregan said Morristown police were called to First Baptist Church on Washington Street around 8:45 a.m. on June 25 and found the man near the building's outdoor stairwell.

“The unattended death appears to be the result of a suspected overdose and the investigation remains ongoing at this time,” Cregan said on Sunday evening.
The Morris County Prosecutor's Office was notified, and the Morris County Sheriff's Office and Medical Examiner responded to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Family Promise of Morris County operates a service out of the church's basement, serving the needs of the chronically and transiently homeless, veterans, those leaving jails and hospitals, youth, LGBTQ+, and those in unstable housing.
The Our Promise Drop-In and Resource Center is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Police did not disclose if the death was connected to the resource center.
