Brush Fire Burning In Morris Co.; Fire Restrictions In Place: Officials
A brush fire in Morris County has been burning since Saturday, posing a threat to 13 nearby structures.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Fire crews were actively battling a forest fire in Morris County on Sunday evening, which has been burning since Saturday, according to state officials.
The New Jersey Forest Fire Service has reported significant progress in containing the wildfire in Rockaway Township, which has affected approximately 77 acres. As of the latest update, the fire—named the Microwave Wildfire—is now 70 percent contained.
While 30 structures near the blaze were initially considered at risk, that number has since decreased to 13, and no evacuation orders had been issued as of Monday morning.

Jacobs Road remains closed to ensure public safety and to allow emergency vehicles to operate unimpeded.
The Forest Fire Service reported that over the weekend, a helicopter capable of dropping 350 gallons of water made 15 drops, totaling more than 5,000 gallons. Meanwhile, municipal fire departments from across Morris County are continuing to provide mutual aid to protect structures in the area, according to the service.

The Forest Fire Service stated that they are still investigating the cause of the wildfire and plan to issue an update later today.
On Monday morning, fire officials announced that all of Morris County is under Stage 3 fire restrictions, as mandated by the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. All fires in wooded areas are prohibited, except for those contained in an elevated stove using only propane, natural gas, or electricity. Charcoal fires are not permitted, officials said.
