Crime Up Slightly In Morristown To Start 2016

Assault incidents go up, thefts go down, data shows.

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Crime numbers were up slightly for Morristown in January of 2016 as compared to January 2015, according to data released by the New Jersey State Police.

The Uniform Crime Report showed a nine-percent uptick in overall incidents year-over-year, with the majority coming in the category of simple assault. That area saw an increase from 10 incidents in 2015 to 15 this year in the month of January. The number of assaults with a dangerous weapon went from zero to three as well.

One category that saw a decrease year-over-year was theft, down from 18 to 15 during the same time frame.

Overall violent crimes went up from two to five, but the non-violent crimes went down from 20 to 15. Total incidents saw a slight increase of nine-percent from 32 to 35.
