Family Pleads For Answers In Unsolved Morris Co. Murder
Officials have asked the public to help bring the killer to justice 40 years after the shooting death of a Boonton Township teen.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — The case of a Boonton teen killed forty years ago in Morris County remains unsolved, and the victim's family members gathered Saturday with police to ask the public for assistance in the investigation.
"As we approach 40 years, the case remains active and we'd just like to let Christopher rest in peace. If you have information, if you had information then and you still have it, please come forward. Chris deserves better," said Mark Thomas, the brother of Christopher Thomas, who was shot and killed at a mall in Rockaway Township.
The Morris County Prosecutor has also released a professionally produced video on YouTube asking for the public's assistance in apprehending the murderer.

"We understand that the neighborhoods that make up Morris County are a close-knit community where what happens to one is felt by all," Prosecutor Robert Carroll said. "We are asking everyone in our community to help us in an important case."
Morris County was stunned by the murder on October 1, 1982. According to police, Morris Catholic High School junior Christopher Thomas, a standout athlete and honor student, was at the mall on a Friday night to see a movie.

When the 16-year-old and his date arrived at the main entrance, they were met by a man who pulled out a gun and shot Thomas in the chest.
"We do not believe this incident was targeted. This incident may have been a regretful reaction to an unintentional bump or a perceived slight. It is likely that the individual who encountered Christopher and his girlfriend live in our community and continues to have ties here," Carroll said.
Officials said the man who shot Christopher Thomas had a thin build, a slight, dark mustache, and shoulder-length dark hair parted in the middle. He wore a blue coat and mirrored glasses, officials added.
Authorities are hopeful that the anniversary will generate new leads.
"We have never given up on this case," Morris County Sheriff James Gannon said. "Investigators are reviewing and retesting evidence, including items found at the crime scene. Technology not available at the time of this crime has allowed us to develop new investigative leads."
The reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction has been increased to $50,000, according to Gannon.
"Everyone has a Christopher Thomas in their class. He was the best athlete, he was the straight-A student and he was literally everyone's friend," Thomas said.
Officials urged anyone with information to contact them at 973-COP-CALL or visit CopCall.org.
