Ground Broken For Final Phase Of Morristown's M Station Project

Sanofi, a French pharmaceutical company, will soon relocate to Morristown, bringing nearly 2,000 employees with it.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Sanofi, a French healthcare company with 1,900 New Jersey employees, broke ground on its new flagship location on Wednesday, bringing yet another company to Morristown's M Station.

Sanofi announced in March that it would relocate its New Jersey headquarters from Bridgewater to the M Station West building, along with all of its employees in the state.

According to officials, Sanofi plans to move into the space in about 18 months, with the transition taking place in two stages: the first in the fourth quarter of 2024 and the second in the first quarter of 2025.

"We are thrilled to welcome Sanofi’s forthcoming New Jersey flagship to Morristown," said Mayor Tim Dougherty. "This strategic relocation will bring nearly 2,000 talented professionals to our celebrated downtown, continuing the positive economic ripple effect created by the arrivals of Deloitte and Valley Bank. As our new neighbors settle into M Station, they will undoubtedly become active members of this vibrant, transit-oriented community."

The healthcare company, best known for the prescription sleeping pill Ambien and Admelog, fast-acting mealtime insulin, will take up the majority of the M Station West building, a cutting-edge structure built to connect Morristown's train station and the Morristown Green.

The new structure will complete the M Station project in Morristown. The multi-phase project, developed by SJP Properties in collaboration with Scotto Properties first broke ground in November 2020.

The professional services firm, Deloitte, moved its operations from Parsippany to the M Station East building last fall.

When completed, the project will include more than 350,000 square feet of office and retail space spread across the two buildings. Officials from the town have previously stated that the project will generate approximately $1 million in annual tax revenue.

"The development that has happened here in the last dozen years is a remarkable change over the stagnation of the past, and it has resulted in investment in every corner of our town. I am proud of what we’ve accomplished together so far," Dougherty said.

M Station is regarded as Morristown's most significant commercial development in more than 30 years.

Officials claim it has the potential to revitalize the downtown area by attracting high-quality commercial tenants who will support neighborhood retailers and restaurants, as well as providing new retail options and critical infrastructure improvements.

"M Station West’s groundbreaking represents a landmark achievement for our company — one that further cements Morristown's reputation as a revitalized suburban hub and destination for leading global companies,” said Steven Pozycki, Founder and CEO of SJP Properties. "Under Mayor Dougherty's leadership, Morristown has fostered a pro-business environment, which has enabled us to bring Deloitte, Valley Bank and now Sanofi to this thriving downtown."

Councilman Nathan Umbriac, who works for Sanofi, lauded the move.

"I think it's great. It's great for the community, it's great for Sanofi as an organization to be in a great downtown, like Morristown, so there is a lot of buzz around the office about it," Umbriac said.

Sanofi is the third major company to announce a move to Morristown in the last three years, joining Deloitte and Valley National Bank.

SJP and Scotto broke ground last year on a new 120,000-square-foot office and retail building along Speedwell Avenue for Valley Bank's new headquarters. The structure is expected to be completed in mid-2023.
