ICE Investigation Ended In Car Chase Through Affluent NJ Neighborhoods, Police Say
Local law enforcement was not involved with the investigation or the subsequent car chase, according to authorities.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) investigation led to a car chase throughout several Morris County neighborhoods, according to local police.
On Saturday around 7 a.m., Chatham police were informed of an “active motor vehicle pursuit” that started in Madison Borough and concluded in Chatham.
Chatham authorities said that ICE was involved in an immigration investigation that led to the pursuit.

The car chase ended on Commerce Street in Chatham, which is where local police arrived at the scene. Chatham officers arrived on the scene to ensure that no local or federal officers, as well as residents, were in any danger.
Once the situation was determined to be safe, Chatham officers cleared the scene.

Neither Chatham nor Madison police were involved in the pursuit, and neither was actively involved in the investigation, according to authorities.
Patch has reached out to ICE to determine what incited the investigation and subsequent car chase, but representatives were not readily available for comment.
According to the state’s Immigrant Trust Directive, local law enforcement is not permitted to aid or interfere in civil immigration enforcement operations conducted by ICE. Local officers also cannot "provide ICE with access to state or local law enforcement resources, including equipment, office space, databases, or property, unless those resources are readily available to the public."
