Large Bear Roams Morristown Neighborhood, Peck School Campus

Another bear sighting in Morristown puts residents on alert.

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - They're here and, it seems, not too worried about meeting the neighbors.

The bruin pictured made his way into a Paula Court back yard Monday evening along the Peck School campus grounds.

The homeowner said his dog nearly came face to face with the bear, but neither animal showed any aggression.

Don't forget about this guy going for a jog last July on Picatinny Road, and of course, who can forget the scene made on the Morristown Green last October as a bear climbed a tree and took a nap in the middle of the day.

Residents may call police to report bear sightings, but unless the animal shows any aggression toward pets or people, authorities will only make attempts to move the animal back to the woods rather than tranquilize or shoot it, per New Jersey Fish and Wildlife rules.
