Man Kills His Mother And Steals Her Car, Crashes It On Morris Co. Highway: Prosecutors

The accused was charged with first-degree murder following his apprehension.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A South Jersey man accused of killing his own mother was apprehended last week after crashing her car in Morris County, officials say.

Orsman Summerville, 40, is accused of killing his mother, Enid Wordsworth, with whom he lived in Burlington Township, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.

On July 6, relatives found Wordsworth, 72, bludgeoned to death in her residence, authorities said.

An investigation found that Summerville had killed his mother and fled their shared residence in her car, according to authorities.

The following day, July 7, Summerville crashed his mother’s car on I-287 in Morris County. He sustained injuries and was hospitalized.

On Monday, Summerville was charged with first-degree murder.

He was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday and placed in Burlington County Jail to await court proceedings.

Officials have not released details regarding the car crash or potential motives behind Wordsworth's murder.
