Morris Resident Closes Stock Exchange For a Cause
Peter Rooney, Mendham resident and chair of the NJ Sharing Network Foundation, closed the New York Stock Exchange to recognize the start of Donate Life Month.

NJ Sharing Network recognized the start of Donate Life Month, a time to honor the generosity of organ, eye and tissue donors and to support their families, by ringing the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange on April 1.
NJ Sharing Network officials, like Mendham resident Peter Rooney who is the company chair, was joined by board members, donor families, transplant recipients and volunteers, to ring the closing bell to give hope to the 115,000 men, women and children in America waiting for life-saving organs.
NJ Sharing Network is the organ procurement organization responsible for the recovery of organs and tissue for the 5,000 New Jersey residents currently waiting for life-saving transplants.

“Every day we see that donation truly saves and changes lives,” said Joe Roth, President and CEO of NJ Sharing Network. “We are here today to spread the word that each one of us has the power to save a life.”
Rooney has been a member of the foundation board since 2010. His father, also Peter Rooney, was a Millburn firefighter who suffered from end-stage renal disease. He was receiving kidney dialysis and was on the organ donation waiting list when he died in 2006.
