Morristown Police Chief Demnitz Retiring

Demnitz has been suspended from the job with pay since mid-December 2018; his retirement will be effective this weekend.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Morristown Chief of Police Pete Demnitz will retire, effective this Saturday, Morristown officials confirmed.

Acting Chief Darnell Richardson will continue in the position, public safety director Michael Corcoran confirmed Wednesday afternoon. Richardson told MorristownGreen he would be willing to stay on long-term if asked.

Demnitz has been suspended from the job with pay since mid-December 2018. Officials have kept the reasons for the suspension quiet, but it came after Demnitz was found guilty in a civil suit of demoting an officer after that officer blew the whistle on Demnitz's outside jobs, the Daily Record reported.
