Morristown's Porcello Throws 8 Shutout Innings

Seton Hall Prep graduate has best-ever start for Detroit Tigers in a losing effort.

Morristown native Rick Porcello had his best-ever Major Leagues start Tuesday, although it was in a losing effort.

Porcello, a Detroit Tigers starter, gave up three hits and one walk while striking out 11 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to mlive.com.

"I thought he was terrific," Tigers manager Jim Leyland told mlive.com. "That’s probably as good as I’ve seen him."

The Seton Hall Prep graduate went eight shutout innings and left the game at a scoreless tie. The Pirates would go on to win 1-0 in extra innings on Neil Walker's solo homer in the 11th.

Porcello is 2-2 on the season with a 5.29 ERA, but he seems to be finding his stride. He's gone 2-0 with a 3.32 in his last six starts after beginning the season 0-2 with a 13.09 ERA.
